Lake Greeson Fishing Guide
Bass, crappie, catfish, walleye, hybrid stripers — plus rainbow and brown trout in the Little Missouri River below Narrows Dam.
Lake Greeson is widely considered one of the best multi-species fisheries in Arkansas. The clear water, deep structure, and steady release from Narrows Dam create conditions that hold quality fish year-round — and because Lake Greeson gets less pressure than Lake Ouachita or DeGray, the bite stays consistent. This guide walks through the major species, where and when to catch them, the main boat ramps, the Little Missouri River tailwater below the dam, and where to stay at Lake Greeson fishing cabins within walking distance of the water.
Bass
Largemouth and spotted bass are the bread and butter of Lake Greeson fishing. Spring is the headline season — pre-spawn fish move into coves along the western shore in March and April. Summer fish move deeper to suspended timber and creek-channel breaks. Fall brings a strong shallow bite as bass push shad back into the coves.
Crappie
Crappie spawn in late March and April around brush piles and standing timber in the major creek arms. Most local anglers fish small jigs under floats or live minnows around submerged trees. Summer crappie suspend over deeper brush.
Catfish
Lake Greeson supports a healthy channel and blue catfish population, with flatheads in deeper holes near the dam. Cut shad, chicken liver, and stink baits all work. Night fishing from the bank — including the rocky shoreline at Parker Creek Recreation Area — is productive throughout the warm months.
Walleye
Lake Greeson is one of only a handful of Arkansas lakes that supports a genuine walleye fishery. Fish run up the Little Missouri River arm in late winter and early spring — late February through March is prime. Summer walleye relate to deep points and humps along the main lake.
Hybrid Stripers & White Bass
Hybrid striped bass and white bass make a strong spring run up the Little Missouri River arm and concentrate below the dam, where the action can be nonstop on inline spinners, swimbaits, and topwater plugs in low light. In summer, hybrids school on main-lake humps.
Little Missouri River Below Narrows Dam
The Little Missouri River below Narrows Dam is a coldwater tailwater stocked by Arkansas Game & Fish with rainbow and brown trout — a productive winter fishery just a ten-minute drive from our cabins. A trout permit is required in addition to a standard Arkansas fishing license. Always check current generation schedules and water releases before wading.
Seasonal Patterns
- Late Winter–Early Spring (Feb–Mar): Walleye and white-bass run; peak trout fishing below the dam.
- Spring (Apr–May): Pre-spawn and spawning bass and crappie — some of the best fishing of the year.
- Summer (Jun–Aug): Deep bass and crappie; early/late hybrid action on the surface.
- Fall (Sep–Nov): Shallow shad-chasing bass; fewer boats.
- Winter (Dec–Jan): Quality deep-timber crappie; excellent trout fishing below Narrows Dam.
