Lake Greeson Cabins Near Murfreesboro, Arkansas
Two locally owned cabins on Parker Creek Road — walking distance to the swim beach, boat ramp, and 7,000 acres of clear Ouachita Mountain water.
Lake Greeson is one of the clearest, quietest lakes in Arkansas — a 7,000-acre Army Corps of Engineers reservoir tucked into the southern edge of the Ouachita Mountains. It's fed by the Little Missouri River, ringed by pine and hardwood ridges, and far enough off the interstate to keep the crowds light even at the height of summer. If you've been looking for a Lake Greeson cabin rental that puts you on the water rather than down the road, you're in the right place.
Parker Creek Bend Cabins operates two cabins — The Americana and The Codex — on Parker Creek Road, just outside Murfreesboro. Both sit within easy walking distance of the Army Corps of Engineers Parker Creek Recreation Area, which means you can leave the truck parked, grab a towel or a fishing rod, and be at the lake in minutes.
About Lake Greeson
Lake Greeson was created in 1950 when the Narrows Dam was built across the Little Missouri River. The lake stretches roughly twelve miles north-to-south through Pike County, with more than 100 miles of mostly undeveloped shoreline managed by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers. Because so much of the surrounding land is public, the lake has stayed clean, quiet, and visually almost untouched — no rows of lake houses, no jet-ski rental towers, no neon-lit waterfront bars.
What you get instead is a working Ouachita foothills lake: clear water with visibility often running ten feet or more, deep coves along the western shore, rocky points and submerged timber that hold fish, and a steady current near the dam that keeps the water cool through summer. Locals call it the prettiest lake in southwest Arkansas, and after a few mornings on it, most visitors agree.
The lake sits roughly six miles north of downtown Murfreesboro, the Pike County town best known as the home of Crater of Diamonds State Park. Many guests split their time between the lake and the diamond mine, but for returning visitors, Lake Greeson is the main event.
Things to Do on Lake Greeson
Boating & Pontoons: Public boat ramps at Parker Creek, Kirby Landing, Self Creek, Cowhide Cove, and Narrows Dam. Pontoon, fishing-boat, and kayak rentals are available seasonally from local marinas.
Swimming & Beaches: Designated swim areas at Parker Creek, Kirby Landing, and Self Creek. The water stays cooler than most Arkansas lakes thanks to the dam release, and the gravel bottoms are easy on bare feet.
Paddling: Kayaks and canoes are perfect for exploring the quiet coves around Parker Creek and the upper end of the lake. The Little Missouri River above and below the lake offers excellent flat-water and Class I-II paddling.
Hiking & Wildlife: The Bear Creek Cycle Trail and Little Missouri Trail system thread through the surrounding national forest, and the adjacent wildlife management area covers 37,000 acres — deer, turkey, bald eagles, and the occasional black bear sighting.
Day Trips: Crater of Diamonds State Park (12 miles), Ka-Do-Ha Indian Village (15 minutes), Hot Springs National Park (under an hour), and the Albert Pike Recreation Area on the Little Missouri are all within reach.
Fishing Lake Greeson
Lake Greeson is widely considered one of the best multi-species fisheries in Arkansas. The clear water, deep structure, and steady dam release create conditions that hold quality fish year-round — and because the lake gets less pressure than Ouachita or DeGray, the bite stays consistent.
Bass
Largemouth and spotted bass are the bread and butter. Spring is the headline season — pre-spawn fish move into coves along the western shore in March and April, and topwater action picks up in May. In summer, fish move deeper to suspended timber and creek channels. Fall brings a strong shallow bite as bass chase shad.
Crappie & Bream
Crappie spawn in late March and April around brush piles and standing timber in the major creek arms. Bream fishing turns on in late May and stays excellent through midsummer — kids love it, and you can do it right from the bank at Parker Creek Recreation Area.
Walleye & White Bass
Lake Greeson is one of only a handful of Arkansas lakes that supports a real walleye fishery. They run up the Little Missouri River arm in late winter and early spring. White bass make a similar run, and when they school under the dam in spring, the action can be nonstop.
Trout Below the Dam
The Little Missouri River below the Narrows Dam is stocked by Arkansas Game & Fish with rainbow and brown trout. The tailwater is cold, clear, and beautiful — and it's only about a ten-minute drive from our cabins. A trout permit is required in addition to a standard Arkansas fishing license.
Fish Both Lake Greeson and the Little Missouri River
One of the unique advantages of staying at Parker Creek Bend Cabins is convenient access to both Lake Greeson and the Little Missouri River. While Lake Greeson is known for excellent bass, crappie, catfish, walleye, and hybrid striped bass fishing, the Little Missouri River below Narrows Dam offers a different experience with scenic river fishing opportunities and seasonal trout stocking.
Guests can spend the day boating and fishing on Lake Greeson, then explore the Little Missouri River for additional angling opportunities. The combination of a large recreation lake and a productive Arkansas river makes the Murfreesboro area a favorite destination for fishermen and outdoor enthusiasts throughout the year.
Whether you're planning a family fishing trip, a weekend getaway, or a longer outdoor vacation, our Americana and Codex Lake Greeson cabins provide easy access to some of southwest Arkansas' most popular fishing waters. Book a Murfreesboro fishing cabin direct and start planning your trip.
Parker Creek Recreation Area
Parker Creek Recreation Area is the closest Lake Greeson access point to our cabins — and one of the best on the lake. Operated by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, the area sits in a quiet cove on the western shore, just a short walk from The Americana and The Codex. There's a single-lane paved boat ramp, a designated swim beach with a gentle gravel slope, shaded picnic areas, a hiking trail, and a small campground loop with electric and water hookups.
For our guests, Parker Creek is essentially a private-feeling lakefront extension of the cabin. Many families spend their mornings swimming and their afternoons fishing from the rocky shoreline. Kayakers can put in directly from the beach. The hiking trail is short and gentle, making it a good evening walk after dinner.
Because Parker Creek is a Corps day-use area, leashed pets are welcome, and there's a small day-use fee for vehicles parked at the boat ramp (waived for campground guests). Restrooms and shower facilities are open during the main season and double as severe-weather shelters.
Why Stay Near Parker Creek Recreation Area?
Most Lake Greeson cabin rentals you'll find online sit a 10–20 minute drive from the water. The Codex and The Americana don't. Both cabins are located directly adjacent to the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Parker Creek Recreation Area, with easy walking access to Lake Greeson — the swim beach, paved boat ramp, and shoreline fishing are all minutes from your front door.
That proximity changes how a Lake Greeson trip actually feels. You don't load the truck for every swim. You don't trailer the boat back at lunch. Kids walk to the beach. Anglers fish the shoreline at first light and are back for coffee before anyone else is up. After a long day on the water, you're a short walk — not a drive — from the hot tub.

Daisy State Park
Daisy State Park sits on the south end of Lake Greeson, about a 25-30 minute drive from Parker Creek Road. It's the only Arkansas State Park on Lake Greeson and one of the most popular places to launch a boat, picnic, or spend a half-day with the family. The park covers 274 acres along the lake's southeastern shore and is best known for its marina, fishing pier, and lakeside campsites.
The park's marina rents boats seasonally and sells fuel, bait, and basic tackle. There's a large multi-lane boat ramp, a courtesy dock, and protected coves that make it a good spot to launch on windy days when the main lake gets choppy. Day-use areas include picnic pavilions, a small playground, and shoreline access for bank fishing.
Daisy State Park is also a regional hub for mountain biking. The Bear Creek Cycle Trail system loops through the woods around the park with miles of well-marked singletrack ranging from beginner-friendly to genuinely technical.
